Background & Objectives

We started exploring what kind of streaming product Sinclair could offer, so along with adynamic team of designers we took on the ambitious task of conceptualizing, crafting, and eventually launching Stirr. The challenge was multifaceted: we aimed to seamlessly stream a diverse array of content, including local news, syndicated programs, and advertisements sourced from over 150 of our company's U.S. broadcast locations, all customized based on the user's geographical location (DMA).

Navigating through the intricacies of content aggregation, streaming technology, and user interface design, we encountered a myriad of hurdles along the way. However, with each obstacle overcome, the satisfaction derived from unraveling this complex puzzle grew exponentially. It was a journey fraught with challenges, but the sense of fulfillment upon its successful completion was truly unparalleled.

In the landscape of 2018, streaming technology was still in its early stages. Taking charge as team leader, my primary aim was to craft an impeccable user experience spanning six distinct platforms. We delved into the intricacies of each platform, recognizing that they all came with their own set of unique design limitations. Undeterred, our team embraced the challenge, diligently adapting the design to suit the requirements of each device type. It was a meticulous process, but one that ultimately ensured a seamless and satisfying user experience across the board.

Stirr is a connected TV-first experience, our aim was to ensure that the navigation layers and user experience felt seamless regardless of device type.

Content Management System

To ensure content is delivered effectively, we were tasked to create and deliver a bespoke CMS system that handled an array of tasks. Today the system empowers producers to add or remove channels at will, include or exclude programs at specific times, and manage various aspects such as artwork, metadata, and ad placement, ensuring dynamic control over the platform's offerings at any given time.
